                    FT8 Assistant - Installation Instructions
                              Revision 2 (2021.03.08)

When I initially wrote this program I never intended it to be used by anyone
but me so I never bothered to write an installation utility. Given the
simplicity of the installation I decided that a good set of written
instructions would suffice. But if you find you need some help drop me an
email.

1. Download the program from the OARC web site. It should be located in the
down load area on the OARC web site see:
                            http://ogdenarc.org/downloads.html.
Look for Member downloads by Eugene Morgan.

2. IMPORTANT: Before beginning the installation you need to have your Grid,
your Latitude and Longitude and an XML Logbook or above subscription to QRZ.
You will also need your QRZ password and QRZ account name which as far as I
know is your call sign. You will also need a copy of your QRZ Logbook API
Key. Don’t stress I will tell you exactly where you can find it on QRZ. If
you have a log book you already have a Logbook API Key. To get this key
login to QRZ and go to your QRZ Logbook. Select “Settings”. If you look on
the left hand side of the screen you will see an area labeled Logbook Info.
If your look down you will see the words API Key: in bold black letters.
Next to that in bold green letters you will see your log book API key. It will
be in the form of: AAAA-BBBC-CCCC-DDDD. That is the key you need. Write it
down or you can use the Windows copy feature and copy it to the Windows
clipboard. That key is what the FT8 Assistant uses to tell QRZ which logbook
you want to download.

3. After you have downloaded the setup utility run it. By default the program will
install the program into the Program Files (x86) folder.

4. During the setup a the Configuration Editor will be ran as will ask you for
program will pop up asking you for the information I outlined in step 2 above.
Fill in that infromation. The configuration utility will automatically update the
Config.ini file. You can run the Configuration Editor any time you have
changed your QRZ password or want to change any of the configuration
information.

5. The last step will require that you configure the FT8 Assistant’s window
size. On your desktop you will find the FT8 Assistant icon. Right Click on
it and select [Properties]. In the properties window you will see a several
tabs, click on the [Layout] tab. In the middle of the Layout Tab windows you
will see a box labeled "Windows Size". Set the Width: to 140 and the
Height: to 43. Then click on the [Ok] button. At this point you can run the
Assistant program but there is one more optional step that I recommend if
you want to take full advantage of the Assistant. Download your QRZ log file.

6. The first time you run the program you will be prompted to download your
QRZ Log file. Answer "Y" to the question. After that downloading your QRZ
log file will be optional. At a minimum download it when ever you add a new
confirmed country or after you have erased your FT8 Log file.

                                      <<< WARNING >>>
When executing the program for the first time you may experience a warning
from Microsoft Defender or your anti-virus software warning you about this
program. Don't worry. In the case of Microsoft Defender just click on the
"More info" link then click on the "Run anyway" link. This only occurs the
very first time the program is launched and only on some computers. I do
take extreme precautions to make sure that none of my programs are infected.
However, if you are concerned use the scan feature in Windows Defender to
make sure there are no hitchickers included in the installation payload.

Have Fun - and let me know if you run into any issues or have any questions.
